A DUNFERMLINE golfer is aiming to tee up an above-par performance at a prestigious competition this week.

Evie MacCallum is one of 10 members of Scottish Golf's 2024 girls' squad who will join an international field of players at the Scottish Girls' Open Championship.

A total of 23 homegrown players will go head-to-head with competitors from nine other nations at the event, which began yesterday (Wednesday) at Powfoot Golf Club, Annan, Dumfries and Galloway.

Concluding tomorrow (Friday), the tournament will pitch 144 players into action, including Ireland's defending champion, Olivia Costello.

First played for in 2016, the popularity of this year's championship from players based in Scotland and abroad was such that a ballot was required to decide the starting field.

In addition to competitors from Scotland and Ireland, under-18 players from Austria, Czechia, England, France, Germany, Malta, USA and Wales will compete for the silverware, whilst those aged under-16 will also play for the Menzies Trophy.

Evie and the rest of the field will play 18 holes of stroke play on each of the first two days of competition, after which there will be a cut, with the leading 60 players and ties progressing to the final round of stroke play.
