Dunfermline Athletic 1 Partick Thistle 1

KEEP an eye on East End Park over the next few days and you just may see someone moving the goalposts - onto a bonfire.

The prime suspect will be James McPake who is sick fed up of his team being denied by the uprights, with both Matty Todd and Chris Kane out of luck against the Jags.

It wasn't as bad as the bonkers 1-1 draw against Inverness, when eight Pars attempts at goal bounced off the woodwork, but the boss will view it as another two points dropped in their quest to reach the promotion play-offs.

Post match McPake said: "I'm bemoaning those posts again! I've stood here a couple of times this season and said that.

"I don't like those posts out there at all, they're stopping us scoring so many goals!"

Dunfermline were chasing an equaliser in the second half when Todd beat Partick keeper David Mitchell with a low drive only to watch the ball thump back off the inside of the post, spin across goal and then out for a bye-kick.

Kane levelled from the penalty spot and thought he'd won it in the 88th minute only to see his terrific half volley rebound off the same upright.

To be fair, ex-Par Kerr McInroy had smacked a late effort off the woodwork at the other end as both teams went looking for the knockout blow.

McPake said: "I heard (Thistle striker) Brian Graham saying afterwards it could have been 3-3 or 4-4, I think that could have been in the first half!

"That was two teams really going at each other. We started really well and had a couple of good chances early on but then Partick troubled us.

"I played with Brian when I was on loan at Morton and he was just a kid and I've followed his career since then.

"He's a proper striker and I think he's scored in every game against us this season.

"To limit him to one goal, great, but I think in the second half the difference was the goalposts."

Without the injured Chris Hamilton and Paul Allan, Athletic started brightly with fit-again Miles Welch-Hayes motoring up the right and drilling a dangerous ball across goal that Alex Jakubiak just couldn't reach.

Kane powered a header into Mitchell's gloves shortly after but it started to unravel when Malachi Fagan-Walcott coughed up possession to Brian Graham and the Jags striker forced Deniz Mehmet into a save.

Luckily for the big centre back his skipper, Kyle Benedictus, was in the right place to prevent Aidan Fitzpatrick from netting the rebound.

Welch-Hayes was next to clear off his line, when Graham's deflected strike evaded Mehmet, and McInroy arrowed a free kick just over as Partick piled on the pressure.

That told in the 24th minute when Fagan-Walcott blocked Scott Robinson's drive but, off balance, the defender could only prod the loose ball into the path of Graham whose shot looped off Benedictus and over the line.

McPake said: "I'm really proud of that group of players.

"First half we weren't at the levels we expected. We've got high expectations when the group is strong and the players probably agreed with that.

"We didn't challenge them, we just asked them to go out and give everything in the second half.

"Regardless of the result, we just wanted them to go and perform better and we did that.

"I'll need to watch the game back but I think we deserved all three points in the end."

Dunfermline weren't at their best but showed character and resilience to wrestle back control of the match.

Todd sprung the offside trap in the 66th minute, racing onto a superb Fagan-Walcott pass, but the keeper's right hand post kept his shot out.

Pars were thrown a lifeline when Aaron Muirhead's clumsy challenge on Kane was penalised.

The Dunfermline striker was just inside the box with his back to goal, so there was no imminent threat, but the defender's boot caught the back of his ankle to give the ref a decision to make.

Kane converted and that stung Thistle into life, with Graham's close range effort blocked by Fagan-Walcott and McInroy knocking on wood.

Back came Athletic with sub Owen Moffat missing a snip at the back post.

Kane thought he'd won it with two minutes left on the clock when he shrugged off a challenge and let fly with a tremendous half volley that flew past Mitchell but thudded back off the post.

McPake said: "Chris Kane's all-round game is fantastic and he's great to work with.

"Put him on the pitch and you know what you're going to get from him.

"The one thing that does annoy me is when people say he doesn't score enough goals.

"It's not always about that but he's certainly shown that he's scoring enough goals for us.

"He hit the post last week and scored a goal and hit the post this week and scored a goal.

"Some day it will all come good for him and I just hope it's at Dunfermline."
