PARS boss James McPake has said his team will "keep chipping away" to add to their points tally as they try to maintain their chase for the promotion play-off places.

For the first time this season, they notched up a third successive league win at Arbroath on Saturday, a result which took them into fourth place in the Championship table.

Airdrieonians, who they had leapfrogged into the final Premiership promotion play-off slot, jumped back above Athletic by also beating the Red Lichties at Gayfield in a rearranged clash on Tuesday night.

The Diamonds are one point above Athletic, with a game in hand, but McPake's main focus is to try and gather as many points as possible over the course of their final five matches.

Speaking to Press Sport this week, McPake commented: "We sat down with the board and with the group at the start of the season, including the players, and said the first aim is to get to the 40 points, which was the target that we had set.

"We're now above that, and now it's to see how many more points we can get.

"In terms of how tight this league is, you're still not sitting in a comfortable position at either end of the table, really. No team is outwith probably Dundee United and Raith Rovers.

"I think it's important to just keep chipping away, to keep working hard, and to keep trying to add to that points tally. It's not a case of resetting now. The target was just to get to 40 points, and then our next targets, we'll keep in-house.

"We just want to keep performing on Saturdays, we want to keep winning games of football, and it's just always the next game.

"If we can get another good result against Partick then it's another three points and then we move on to the following week."

Dunfermline, who are also nine points above second bottom Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and the relegation play-off place, entertain third-placed Partick Thistle on Saturday.

The Jags, who were beaten 3-1 at Firhill by the Pars in February, have an eight-point buffer to fifth-placed Athletic, and McPake continued: "We know it's going to be a really tough game.

"Partick are third in the league because they've been pretty consistent over the season. We've had good games against them, tight enough games against them, so it's one that we know we're going to need to be at our best at.

"They've hit a good run, they've picked up some good results recently as well, so it's two teams that will be going into the game desperate for the three points, just for the fact that it's the next game and it's the one they'll be looking at.

"Partick will be looking to cement that play-off place, and we're just desperate to win the next game."

McPake, who revealed Aaron Comrie and Craig Wighton were back running on Monday, will await results of a scan on a hamstring injury - which was "settling down a fair bit" - that was picked up by Paul Allan on Saturday.

Chris Hamilton, who also picked up a knock on Saturday, will be assessed ahead of the weekend, as will Miles Welch-Hayes, who missed out at Gayfield.

Meanwhile, Pars fans can watch the final three home fixtures of the season for a discounted rate.
