DUNFERMLINE Track and Field athletes have been in cross-country action and aiming to build on last year's success.

Poppy Warner of the under-13 girls section finished 26th in a field of nearly 130 in the national championships and was 11th out of a field of 60 in the East District championships.

During the cross-country league season she claimed 7th and 11th spots in the two league matches she ran in while she finished up with an excellent 19th place, out of a field of 70, in the Young Athletes road race.

There were several other excellent performances over the season with Alice Thomas in the under-11 girl’s category claiming a 5th and two 6th place finishes in the East District league matches while teammate Millie Gordon finished in the middle of the field in the two matches she took part in.

That contributed to a 10th spot overall in the league.

The under-11 boys were more successful with a 6th place finish in the league where Alfie Whyte had a blistering season.

She was backed by Briony Argo and Lily Pritchard with both girls scoring points with decent finishes.

The older age groups were hindered by athletes’ being unavailable or suffering injuries, however Ruby Candlish posted a solid 32nd spot in her only league match.

For the boys Oliver Morrison, Dominic Drylie and Munro Strachan competed well but sadly not enough to lift the team out of the bottom half of the table.

A club spokesperson said: "It was a very encouraging cross-country season for the club with once again the younger age groups shining with some excellent performances individually and as a team.

"The club can look forward to a successful outdoor season from these young athletes based on what we have seen over the winter."
