A WEST FIFE cycle speedway team have followed up an historic first top division victory by stunning one of the league favourites.

Fife Revolutions, who are based at Queen Anne High School, have added to their maiden British Cycling North and Scotland League, Division One, win at home to Hull by notching up a sensational win at Sheffield Stars.

The team, competing in Division One for only the second season, had never emerged victorious from the South Yorkshire venue previously, despite having twice won Division Two since the club's formation in 2016.

The 94-83 win has put them joint top of the league ahead of the visit of Astley and Tyldesley this afternoon, and Revolutions head coach, Craig Masson, commented: "We went down to Sheffield, a track we'd never won at before, and beat them. I couldn't believe it.

"They're probably one of the title favourites, between them and Bury Comets.

"Everybody rode brilliantly. It's a bit difficult trying to keep everybody's feet on the ground after that!

"It is a shock, in only our second season in Division One, and going down there and winning. I wouldn't be surprised now if teams make sure they have their strongest team available against us.

"There's a long way to go in the season. After the season we had last year, where we didn't win at all, to have two wins, one at home, and one away from home, has exceeded expectations.

"We want to see how far we can take that."

Elsewhere, the Revolutions, who reached an agreement with JDB All Trades for their home track to be known as the 'JDB All Trades Fastbowl', and who have welcomed Andrew Allan Architecture as a track sponsor, were well represented at the recently-held Home International event, with nine of their riders competing for Scotland.

Lewis Alsop, making his second appearance, was in action for the seniors; Kayden Davidson, Gareth Davies, Joshua Falconer, Calan Cuthbert and Finn Crowther competed for the juniors; and Colin Davidson, Jason Keith and Stevie Crowther were part of the veterans team.

The event was held in Newport, South Wales, with teams from England and Ireland joining Scotland and the hosts, with Masson hailing it as a "great experience" for Fife's younger riders in particular.

The team were also recently in action in the second round of the Scottish League, which saw Border Raiders make their debut to compete with Fife, Northumbria, Edinburgh Falcons and Glasgow Cyclones, and help ensure a record number of riders took part.

This Saturday, the Revolutions will host a second 'Kingdom Crits' event with a taster session in cycle speedway.

With support from Active Fife, it will be held thanks to funding from a Community Cycling Fund, delivered by sportscotland and EventsScotland, that has been made available ahead of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships taking place in Glasgow.
