A Dunfermline man who tried to isolate his partner and cut her ties with support services has been jailed.

Steven Adam wrote bogus letters to the social work department in a bid to stop their involvement with the woman.

He also tried to stop her contact with her mother in domestic abuse that lasted for well over a year.

Steven Adam, 54, of Islay Road, appeared for sentencing Dunfermline Sheriff Court having been found guilty by a jury after trial.

He was convicted of a charge that between April 1, 2019 and September 13, 2020, at Islay Road and elsewhere, he engaged in abusive course of conduct towards his former partner.

He attempted to prevent her from receiving assistance from the social work and mental health support services by writing and sending a letter to Fife Council social work department in which he pretended to be his partner.

In the letter he made a complaint, apparently from her, about social workers’ contact with her.

He instructed the woman to state during calls to social workers that she did not require assistance from them.

He attempted to isolate her from the support services and from her mother, made derogatory remarks, repeatedly accused her of infidelity, demanded to know where she was and who she was with.

He repeatedly phoned her and sent text messages to her stating she was having sexual intercourse with various males.

He induced her to state in a video that she had sexual contact with numerous men.

He also stated that he had a video of her confessing that she was a prostitute and he threatened to publicise the recording.

Sheriff Susan Duff jailed Adam for 30 months. She also imposed a three-year non-harassment order
