A 77-year-old Dunfermline man who again ignored a lifetime driving ban has avoided being sent back to prison.

Robert Murphy, of Inchkeith Drive, has a long history of road traffic offences which have brought jail terms in the past.

He was back in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and admitted that on January 25 in Trondheim Parkway, Dunfermline, he drove a car while disqualified and without insurance.

Ten years ago he was jailed after his 36th offence and Sheriff Garry Sutherland noted that Murphy’s previous custodial terms had not stopped him offending.

“He’s incorrigible, that’s the word that springs to mind,” said defence solicitor Alexander Flett.

“He’s now 77 and in very poor health.”

Sheriff Sutherland imposed another lifetime driving ban on Murphy and fined him £840.
