A Dunfermline couple who first met at Queen Anne High School have just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Ken and Barbara Logan, from Thimblehall Drive, marked the impressive milestone last Wednesday (April 17).

Born and raised in the city, the couple were at school together and their romance further blossomed through correspondence while Ken served in the RAF on National Service.

On April 17, 1954, the two exchanged vows at North Parish Church, Dunfermline, and made their first home on Foundry Street.

Ken, 92, was an apprentice butcher to trade before he and Barbara took charge of their own grocery business on Townhill Road and then in Abbeyview.

As a member of the Scottish Grocers Federation, he entered into trade competitions and won the Scottish Traders Challenge Cup for ham boning and kinching for two consecutive years.

Later Ken was a salesman with OXO Fray Bentos and during that time he was marksman of the week on TV programme ‘The Golden Shot’. He was also instrumental in the launch of Oxo’s new product ‘Golden OXO Cube’.

Barbara, 90, had taken up employment at Scottish Homes in Rosyth and, up until their retirement, the couple ran the post office and shop at Moncreiffe in Perth.

The Logans are active members of the North Parish Church, with Barbara having been christened there.

Her father, James Allison, served as an elder in the Kirk.

Ken was session clerk for 44 years before retiring in 2020.

However, he continues his role as an elder in the kirk.

The Logans have enjoyed their post-retirement life, with travels to mainland USA to visit family, as well as to Hawaii, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand, which is their favourite destination.

These days they enjoy holidays in Scotland and England, along with relishing their walks around Townhill Loch and tending their garden.

Barbara hones her piano skills by attending Morning Music at the Music Institute, having been a member for the past 30 years.

The couple have two sons, Kenny and Jim, and a family that spans three generations with five granddaughters, three great-granddaughters and a great-grandson.

In celebration of their 70th wedding anniversary, a gathering of family and friends was organised in Dalgety Bay, with Provost Jim Leishman presenting flowers on behalf of Fife Council and Col Jim Kinloch, deputy lieutenant, representing the Fife Lieutenancy.
