CYCLISTS from West Fife and beyond will take to local roads for two races that have been scheduled for this month.

Dunfermline Cycling Club have announced that the Eileen Roe Shield, and Jack Murray Road Race, have both been pencilled in to take place on Saturday, April 9.

As has been the case in previous years, they will take on the Lathalmond Circuit and will incorporate the Scottish Junior Road Race Championships.

The day will begin with the Eileen Roe Shield Road Race, which was first run in 2018 and is named after the former West Fife cyclist who was selected three times to ride for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games, and was a two-time British Cycling National Circuit Race champion.

It will take place over a distance of 61 kilometres while the Jack Murray Road Race, which was first held in 2002, will see competitors go wheel-to-wheel over 50 miles.

The event will have 65 riders protected traditionally by motorbike outriders, and more than 35 volunteers assisting in marshalling and driving the support vehicles.

Full race details can be found on Dunfermline Cycling Club's website.

Meanwhile, along with the road races, the club has announced some other plans as they move out of the winter.

They will be running new start rides each month, which is aimed at encouraging new cyclists to get involved with the sport, or people who maybe haven’t been on the bike in a while, while there is also the chance to take part in their 'Tour of the Kingdom' on May 28.

That ride is for cyclists of all abilities, with routes of 33, 70 or 104 miles scheduled, which will begin at Pittencrieff Park.

Entry costs £30, which includes timings, pictures, food stops and a souvenir water bottle, and for more details, visit the club's website.
