DUNFERMLINE and West Fife MP Douglas Chapman has said he will donate money allegedly sent to him by Piers Morgan to a local foodbank.
The SNP MP received £5 along with a bizarre letter – dated April Fool’s Day – which asked him to review a new book claiming to be from the controversial talk-show host.
Other MPs have received similar letters, which all read: “Thank you so much for agreeing to read my draft script. Your comments would be much appreciated.
"I intend to publish it shortly and you will note I have taken liberty of mentioning your name in endorsing my script. Before the book is published would you please confirm whether this is agreeable to you.
“Please find enclosed a small donation to your favourite charity. Kind regards, Piers.”
Speaking about the spoof letter, Mr Chapman said: “As April Fool’s jokes go this certainly is one of the strangest I’ve come across.
“Nevertheless, the five-pound donation will be put to good use by going to a local foodbank, along with a box of food and other essentials provided by me – something I’m sure ‘Piers Morgan’ would support.”
