RESIDENTS can have their say on plans to build up to 80 homes on a Fife Council depot in Dunfermline.

A public exhibition is being held in Baldridgeburn Community Centre outlining the scheme for Carnock Road.

Allanwater Developments, who are already building houses on the street, want to develop the council depot at Milesmark.

They have submitted a proposal of application notice, which gives them 12 weeks to consult and firm up their ideas before a planning application is tabled, and have encouraged local residents to have their say.

As well as the public exhibition, which runs until Thursday and is open from 8.30am to 10pm, there will be a drop-in session at the same venue on Friday.

The firm's design team will be on hand to discuss the proposals between noon and 7.30pm.

Allanwater, based in Bridge of Allan, have already developed the land to the west of Targate Road, the site of the old MFI store and Curtis Motors garage.

Housebuilding is continuing there and they're now planning to buy the depot across the road and erect up to 80 homes.

The land is available as, back in February, the council outlined plans to sell four depots in Dunfermline to fund a new £4.5 million 'super depot' at the former Kingdom Services site, next to the A92 at Halbeath.

As well as the Milesmark site, they put the depots at Bellyeoman, Dickson Street and Elgin Street on the market and plan to open the new facility, which will house waste services, fleet and maintenance operations, area (parks) and building services, next year.

Allanwater's first site, vacant for years after the closure of MFI and Curtis Motors, was referred to as 'pound land' after a dispute between the council and the firm.

The council, who did not own the site, wanted £174,000 to compensate for the “loss of protected employment land”.

However, Allanwater offered £1 for the "eyesore" site and argued that the high cash demand would make the scheme “financially unviable”.

The council eventually agreed to drop the demand for £174,000 and work began in July 2015 on a mix of two, three, four and five bedroom homes.
