EMERGENCY services are encouraging West Fifers to attend a road safety event in Dunfermline tomorrow (Friday).

Cut It Out is being run by the Fife Community Safety Partnership and will be held in the Tesco car park behind the fire station from 6.30-8.30pm.

The event aims to help reduce the chance of motorists being involved in an accident and to stress the importance of cycling safety after a recent increase in the number of cyclists injured and killed on Fife's roads.

There will also be live demonstrations to show how all the emergency services work together at road traffic collisions.

Mark Bryce, station manager at Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The purpose of this event is to highlight the consequences of road traffic collisions and how they affect families of those involved as well.

“Things can very quickly go wrong for any motorist no matter how much experience they have behind the wheel. Every driver can make a difference and by understanding the risks, staying aware of the conditions and choosing to drive responsibly, we can all help keep ourselves, our passengers and other road users, such as cyclists, safe.”

The event will give visitors the chance to speak with professionals and take part in interactive stalls, including a driving and collision simulator, to highlight the importance of wearing seatbelts.

Go karts, beer goggle challenges and cycling demonstrations will also take place on the day, as well as Scottish Fire and Rescue service providing CPR training.
